Researchers at Yale have successfully bound a single photon to a superconducting device designed to act just like a single atom, resulting in a functional artificial molecule. The invention enables the creation of incredibly small chips that replace entire rooms full of equipment useful for, among other things, quantum computing and quantum cryptography (not to mention more artificial molecules...).
