New software can help predict a person's risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke over 10 years. Called HeartScore, the program was developed by the European Society of Cardiology. It takes data like blood pressure, cholesterol levels, smoking frequency, gender and age, then predicts when a heart attack or stroke will occur.
NEC has created a battery that can be recharged in 30 seconds, allowing 80 hours of use at the same level of power as nickel-hydrogen cells. NEC's organic radical battery technology will be built into future NEC mobile products, but the company won't say when. The concept will be discussed at the 12th International Meeting on Lithium Batteries in Nara, Japan on June 27.

Unfortunately for the thief, the phone's most interesting feature is built-in GPS tracking. Siemens engineers secretly queried the phone to determine its location, and told the Hanover police where to nab the thief.

Service Restored Just Two Weeks After Iraqi VoIP Gateway Destroyed By Bomb
Service was restored less than two weeks after a bomb attack on the gateway that carries carrying voice and data traffic in and out of Iraq. The bomb was placed inside a cooking oil container and planted March 3 by temporary workers. The gateway carries voice, fax and data services between Baghdad and Globecomm in New York. "Disaster recovery" takes place on a vastly difference scale in Iraq than it does elsewhere, apparently.
