Rumor: Toshiba Technology Let's You Find Songs By Tapping Rhythm

A rumor circulating in Asia says that Toshiba will soon announce a research breakthrough that would enable computers to identify songs when you simply tap the rhythm for the song.

Thirsty desk potatoes at the University of Florida have created Koolio, a "traveling autonomous refrigerator robot." Anyone on the 3rd floor of Benton Hall can log into Koolio and order a drink. The fridge will navigate its way to the room.

Drudge is reporting that Michael Moore, an American filmmaker and author whose recent bestselling book, "Dude, Where's My Country," criticizes American corporations and the Bush administration for the number of U.S. jobs outsourced abroad, has outsourced both the design and maintenance of his web site to Canada.


U.S. Army Building Simulations Based on 'There'



US Army's Dr. Michael Macedonia is building complex war-zone simulations based on the virtual reality game "There." It's cheaper than actually training soldiers in the real "there."

Santa Monica-based Beepcard has built a prototype credit card that uses voice authentication for security. A voice-recognition chip is small and thin enough to be built into the plastic -- as are a tiny microphone, speaker and battery. To use the card, you actually speak a password.


World's Largest: Chinese Company Boasts 84-Inch Plasma Screen

A Chinese company called Skyworth claims to sell a 84-inch plasma screen. Your mouse pointer will be the size of a slice of pizza.

Rise of the Machines: Advanced German Humanoid Robot Unveiled




The Germany company Festo will unveil a humanlike robot with servo-pneumatic muscles -- exactly like the Austrian-built "Terminator" robot -- at a Fair in Hannover this week. The Robot, called "Tron X," has over 200 servo-pneumatic controllers that provide muscle-like movement.



Hackers Change Names of Political Parties on Indonesian Election Web Site

Hackers defaced the Indonesian elections web site, changing the name of most real political parties to fictional ones, including the "Pink Grandfather Party" and the "Party of Bottled Mineral Water." One party's name was changed to the "Party that must repair its website first."The Indonesian General Election Commission had to shut the site down for four hours Saturday while it was restored.


Survey Reveals Which Mobile Providors Customers Hate -- And Why

Surpringly, T-Mobile and Sprint are actually hated more than AT&T Wireless by customers, according to a recent study. Another surprise: Verizon is only second best in customer warm-and-fuzziness, defeated by Nextel. Here are the percentages of customers who say they're dissatisfied: T-Mobile (25%), Sprint (21.9%), AT&T Wireless (21.2%), Cingular (17.9%), Verizon Wireless (10.4%), Nextel (8.8%). Here's what will come as a surprise to no one: Some two-thirds of the reasons for unhappiness are related to billing problems.


Health Ring Checks Vital Signs; Just Give Your Doctor the Finger

MIT mechanical engineers Harry Asada and Phillip Shaltis have invented a "sensor ring" that can keep track of your body temperature, heart rate and blood oxygen level, then beam that info wirelessly to your doctor wirelessly via your cell phone. When the ring's tiny battery dies, your doctor may assume you're dead, too.
