IBM egghead Dmitiri Asonov wrote software that can read with 80 percent accuracy what's being typed by simply feeding the keyboard sound into the program. He did it to prove that the unique sounds made by keyboards and all manner of keypads are a potential security risk and reported his findings in a paper entitled "Keyboard Acoustic Emanations."
